I work mainly in computational linguistics, or natural language processing. My main focus is natural language parsing, spanning theoretical, practical and applied aspects.
While I am excited by the revolution spurred by large language models—and actively participate in the underlying debates—I do not think NLP should become an LLM monoculture. Efficiency, explainability and the scientific insight gained from computational analysis of language still call for a breadth of approaches. Hence my interest in parsing and its applications.
I also have a side interest in the capabilities of LLMs for creative writing and more broadly for the humanities.
Among my career highlights are an ERC Starting Grant (FASTPARSE, 2017-2022) and ERC Proof-of-Concept GRANT (SALSA, 2023-2024). In 2022, I was awarded the National Young Researcher Price "María Andresa Casamayor" in Mathematics and Information Technologies by Spain's Ministry of Science. I have also been named an Honorary Member of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society.
I am always open to new research subjects, ideas and collaborations.
